RIP Tino and Cuckoo

We’re so sad to have to let you know that we lost two sanctuary residents this week. RIP Tino and Cuckoo.

It never gets any easier losing our rescued residents, and this week we were heartbroken to lose two special characters, Tino the Horse and Cuckoo the Amazon Parrot.

Tino

Tino came to us in early 2023 from a riding school after he was retired due to problems with his tendons and at nearly 30-years-old he was quite the gentleman of the paddock he loved being in here at Hopefield. He had a wonderful time spending his final months with his new best friends, ponies Baby, Syd, Minnie, Stardust and Meg, and was loved by staff, volunteers and visitors immeasurably. We are all going to miss him so very much. Rest easy, sweet boy.

Cuckoo

Cuckoo the Amazon Parrot came to us in 2021 after his elderly owner could no longer care for him, and was believed to be in his 80s, which is an amazing age for a parrot! He was especially fond of his true love, Diana (pictured on his right here), and so it’s doubly sad that Diana has lost her partner. We lost him peacefully through old age and we’ll all miss him and his noises very much. Fly high over the rainbow bridge, Cuckoo!
