Steve will continue to receive precautionary treatment for mites, along with vitamin supplements and a new UV light to support his overall health and the growth of healthy feathers. His progress won’t happen overnight, and there’s no guarantee that all of his feathers will grow back, but we’ll give his body every opportunity to recover.
Sadly, we believe Steve’s previous living conditions, poor diet and lack of appropriate care are the greatest contributors to his severe feather loss. The cage he was living in before coming to Hopefield was barren, tiny and broke our hearts — no animal should be expected to live like that.
But Steve’s life looks very different now. He is safe, loved and receiving everything he needs: a nutritious diet, veterinary care, enrichment, attention and plenty of patience. Most importantly, he’ll never be neglected again. He has already captured so many hearts with his wonderful personality, and we can’t wait to watch him continue to settle in and thrive.
