RIP Elsa the turkey

It’s never easy to say goodbye to our rescues, but we console ourselves knowing that Elsa led a full and happy life.
We had to say goodbye to our beautiful turkey, Elsa this week. She was saved from being someone’s Christmas dinner back in 2013, along with her friend, Olaf. Turkeys have a natural lifespan of around 10 years, so to get to 12 is phenomenal! She lived her life knowing only love and safety,  unlike many other turkeys who don’t get to make it past 6 months old.

Sadly, Elsa’s health had declined recently due to her age, and we had to make the heartbreaking decision to say our final goodbye to her. RIP Elsa, you’ll be missed by all of us here at Hopefield: staff, volunteers and visitors alike.
