Great news for our rescued marmosets! Hopefield has officially received its primate licence, meeting the UK’s highest welfare standards.
This was the moment we had all been waiting for: Forest the muntjac deer venturing out into the paddock to meet Evie and Poppy for the very first time. We are delighted to say the introduction could not have gone any better.
As anyone involved in muntjac deer rescue knows, introductions need to be carefully managed to ensure all animals feel safe and comfortable. Thankfully, Forest quickly showed his gentle nature, and it wasn’t long before he was exploring alongside his new companions.
Evie has been an incredible mum-figure to young Poppy since she arrived at our animal sanctuary in Essex, helping her gain confidence and settle into sanctuary life. Seeing Evie extend that same kindness to Forest was truly heartwarming and we’re so happy that they will live the rest of their lives here with us knowing nothing but safety and kindness. Watching the three of them together was a special moment for everyone involved in their care. After difficult starts in life, seeing rescued muntjac deer relaxed, content and enjoying the company of their own kind is exactly what every animal sanctuary and deer rescue centre hopes for.
Of course, there is still one important member of the family waiting in the wings. Our newest arrival, Doodle, is growing bigger and stronger every day, but she needs a little more time before she can safely join the group. We are already looking forward to the day when all four of our rescued muntjac deer can share the paddock together.
As one of the few places involved in muntjac deer rescue in Essex, moments like this make all the hard work worthwhile. Seeing these beautiful little deer thrive in a safe environment after everything they have been through is incredibly rewarding, and we think they make a pretty adorable family already – and we can’t wait to see Doodle complete the group.
If you would like to support the sanctuary by way of a small, regular donation, you can join our Save a Life Campaign which is a minimum of just £2 per month – but that £2 really does make an incredible difference to what we do here. Click here to find out more and to sign up.
