Love is in the air
Happy Valentine's Day!
We would like to share with you some stories of love from the sanctuary.Callie and Benji, the horses, are best friends and partners. Callie is the head mare of our main paddock and Benji is her right hand man. You will often find them grazing next to each other, grooming each other, and sleeping next to each other. Benji protects Callie whilst she leads the other horses. They are the perfect match and a big part of the sanctuary
Lianne (General Manager) and Dave (CEO) met whilst both working at Hopefield in the early 2000’s. Their love and passion for helping animals bonded them and now, years on, they work as a team to run the sanctuary and continue to care for hundreds of rescued animals. Their love for each other is truly the heartbeat of the sanctuary and on behalf of all the animals and team, we would like to say a huge thank you for all your hard work and dedication. During these difficult times, they have been able to keep the sanctuary going and will continue to for many years to come.
Penny and Percy, the iguanas, are couple goals! They both had a rocky start to life before coming to Hopefield. After settling into life at the sanctuary, they found peace and each other. The team gave them a tasty treat of some rose petals to celebrate their love this Valentine's Day
Did you know that doves are a symbol of love due to the Greek Goddess of Love, Aphrodite, who was often depicted with white doves resting on her hand. Did you also know what doves and pigeons are from the Columbidae family and are extremely similar to each other. We have several beautiful doves and pigeons that live happily together at Hopefield. Some of the pigeons are even direct descends from WW1 carrier pigeons!
We wish everyone a happy Valentine’s Day!
