Bird Rescue in Essex: Meet Steve, Our Cheeky Newest Arrival

Meet Steve, Hopefield’s new, adorable resident. Discover his inspiring recovery story and how we’re helping him on his journey.

There’s a new feathered face at Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, and he’s already won over the hearts of everyone here!

Meet Steve, one of the newest birds to join our sanctuary. This little character arrived with almost all of his feathers missing, leaving us with plenty of questions. Although his previous vet gave him a clean bill of health, we’re continuing to monitor him closely to understand what may have caused his feather loss and to ensure he receives the very best care during his rehabilitation.

The good news is that Steve’s feathers are already beginning to grow back, and we’re hopeful he’ll make a full recovery. Once he’s strong enough and able to fly again, our aim is for him to join some of the other rescued birds in one of our aviaries.

For now, Steve is spending time in quarantine while he settles into his new surroundings. As he’s currently unable to fly, he’s taken up residence in one of our offices, where he’s become Lianne’s very special companion. She has even created a bespoke play gym for him, giving him plenty of opportunities to climb, explore and stay active while he regains his strength.

Despite everything he’s been through, Steve has an incredible personality. He’s a real chatterbox, loves interacting with the team and has already become one of the biggest characters at the sanctuary.

At Hopefield Animal Sanctuary, bird rescue in Essex is just one part of the work we do. Every animal that arrives here has their own story, and we’re committed to providing the lifelong care, rehabilitation and love they deserve.

We’re so pleased to welcome Steve to the Hopefield family. He’s safe, loved and has a bright future ahead of him—and we can’t wait to share his recovery journey with you.

💙 Welcome home, Steve.
