Goodnight sweet Shearer

We had to say a very sad goodbye to our sweet little Shearer.
Last Wednesday, we said goodbye to our beloved pony, Shearer 💔 Earlier that morning, Shearer suddenly became unwell. Following a visit from the vet, it was sadly confirmed that there was nothing that could be done to save him, and despite everyone’s best efforts, the kindest thing we could do was let him go peacefully.
Shearer arrived at the sanctuary back in 2001 at around 5 years old, after being abandoned. Due to his boisterous, aggressive and dominant behaviour at the time, he was unable to be rehomed to a private owner, so we offered him the safety and security of a forever home here at Hopefield.
Over the years, Shearer completely transformed. The once troubled little pony grew into a calm, gentle and much-loved member of the sanctuary family, adored by our team and everyone who knew him. He spent the last 25 years surrounded by care, companionship and kindness — exactly as every animal deserves.
Rest in peace, beautiful boy – you will be deeply missed
