Just two days after reopening to the public, and despite the many signs across the sanctuary asking visitors not to feed our animals, Gremlin was rushed to the vets on Sunday afternoon after a visitor decided to feed him handfuls of grass. Whilst this may seem harmless, it isn’t. Gremlin has very few teeth left and cannot chew properly when given large amounts. He grazes slowly, in his own “Gremlin way”, only taking what he can manage. Because of this, he suffered a severe case of choke — something that was traumatic for Gremlin and incredibly distressing for our animal care team to witness.
Sadly, it became a blockage that had to be physically dislodged from his throat. He is now left with a badly ulcerated throat, in significant pain, and remains at the vets.
This applies everywhere — not just here. If the animal is not yours, do not feed it. You do not know their medical conditions, dietary needs, or physical limitations.
Not only has Gremlin had to endure this, but his treatment has already cost over £1,500, and is still ongoing.
