Sad Loss Of Soldier The Horse

He came to the sanctuary over ten years ago with his best friend, Callie, from a riding school who were going to “dispose” of them as they were too old.

Sadly today we said goodbye to our beautiful old boy, Soldier .

He came to the sanctuary over ten years ago with his best friend, Callie, from a riding school who were going to “dispose” of them as they were too old. He certainly went on to show them he had many more years left in him.

Just a few years on he sadly lost his friend and we were all worried how he would cope. He found comfort in his new best friend, Duke, who became his protector. Sadly Duke passed away a few years ago and then he became friends with Shandy, which none of us expected would happen as Shandy can be picky about who she spends her time with!

They both lived the past couple of years happily plodding around the field, and were inseparable. When Shandy had problems with her legs a few months back, Soldier had to stay in a stable next to her to make sure she was ok. He was so gentle and even though he had a history of liver problems, you would have never known anything was wrong.

Sadly this morning he had colic and after examination, nothing could be done. Shandy already misses him so much and is looking around for him.
