Animal abandonment in Essex: Rabbits dumped at the sanctuary gates

We’re so happy we found these two outside the sanctuary gates before the foxes and badgers found them…

On Saturday night, under the cover of darkness, two terrified little bunnies, who we’ve renamed Blossom & Nova, were dumped in a plastic box outside our gates.
Thankfully, our security alarm was triggered by this case of animal abandonment and our on-site team, still awake at the time, were able to rush to their rescue before a fox or badger found them first.

Please – we are begging you – do not leave animals at our gates. They are not safe there. They are frightened, vulnerable, and completely powerless to protect themselves. The last bunnies that were dumped outside the gates were killed before we even knew about them – we were horrified to find a bloodied box and clumps of fur the following morning.

If you are struggling to care for an animal and don’t know where to turn, please talk to us. There are always better options than leaving an animal to face the night alone.
We love what we do, but scenes like this break our hearts. Please help us spread the word — and help us protect the innocent animals who depend on us.
