We’ve been running ethical animal experiences in Essex for a while now, and for 2026 we’ve added some new options giving you access to even more of our amazing rescued residents.
In 2026, we’re launching a Highland Cow Experience in Essex at the sanctuary, and Bonnie and Pumpkin, who came to us in 2023 after their previous owner was no longer able to care for them, can’t wait to meet you. Get ready for up-close time, plenty of photos and learning all about one of the most iconic cattle breeds around.
Fun Highland cow facts:
🐮 Their long fringe (dossan) protects their eyes from wind, rain & snow
❄️ Built for harsh weather — they thrive outdoors all year round
🌾 They’re brilliant foragers and can live on a simple diet of grass, hay and rough grazing
🌱 Their grazing is great for land management and biodiversity
🧠 Known for being calm, gentle and very curious
📸 Naturally photogenic… and they know it
Bonnie brings the cuddly vibes Pumpkin brings the sass – and they both bring a whole lot of personality and fun for an experience with a difference.
