Donkeys

Bella and Peggy are two of our rescue donkeys. Bella first came to our attention when someone was trying to sell her online. She was in a terrible state when she came to Hopefield with massively overgrown hoofs. Our kind supporters raised the money to save her in 12 hours. She got plenty of TLC and love and gave birth to a beautiful baby girl Peggy.

ARCHIE

Archie came to the sanctuary after his owner passed away. This gorgeous boy has a parrot jaw which doesn’t seem to both him and doesn’t stop him eating! He came to the Sanctuary with Billy a cob and Louis another pony.

TORI

Tori is one of our older residents. In her prime she was a stunning Arab and is still beautiful as she grows older. Tori came to us after she had the back of her legs slashed in a bad breakup.

REGINA + BABY ERNIE

Regina arrived in July 2018, she was found wandering the streets by police. When she first arrived at the sanctuary she had some cuts and grazes, her feet were long and it was obvious she was heavily pregnant.  After some much needed TLC and having her feet trimmed she began to settle in and quickly became a favourite amongst all those who met her.  Regina had a check up from Hopefields vet who said that Regina and the baby seemed healthy and it wasn't long until she would give birth. A month or so went by and still no foal so the vets were called to check on Regina. After an examination there were concerns that the foal may not survive but only a scan would confirm this.  Everyone was eagerly awaiting the news, a week later the scan showed that there was in fact a living, lazy foal inside who just wasn't ready to meet everyone yet !  A few weeks later on September the 11th 2018 Regina had finally given birth to a little baby boy.  The 11th September is the anniversary of one of the founders Ernie Clarkes passing so there was no debate on what the baby way going to be called.  The next day it was official he would be named Ernie.

Ernie, like when the vet scanned him is a very laid back foal.  He loves people and will come up and say Hi even at just a couple of days old.  Regina is doing really well and is a wonderful Mum !
